The Women and Children Advancement Network (WACAN) is a non-profit, non-governmental organisation committed to advancing the rights, welfare, and development of women and children. We work to address the challenges facing vulnerable and underserved communities by promoting equality, dignity, inclusion, and sustainable development.
We believe that empowering women and protecting children are essential to building stronger, healthier, and more resilient communities.
To empower women and children through sustainable development initiatives that improve access to quality education, healthcare, economic opportunities, and protection services while promoting human rights, gender equality, and social justice.
A just, inclusive, and equitable society where women and children live with dignity, enjoy equal opportunities, and have the freedom and support to reach their full potential.
Our work focuses on five key areas:
1. Women’s Empowerment
We support women’s economic independence through vocational training, entrepreneurship, financial literacy, livelihood opportunities, and leadership development.
2. Child Protection and Development
We advocate for children’s rights and work to prevent abuse, exploitation, child labour, neglect, and harmful practices while supporting vulnerable children.
3. Education
We promote access to quality education through scholarships, school support, and community-based learning, with particular attention to girls and disadvantaged children.
4. Health and Nutrition
We promote maternal and child health, nutrition awareness, hygiene, and sanitation to improve the well-being of vulnerable families.
5. Advocacy and Community Engagement
We raise awareness of gender equality, human rights, and social justice while encouraging communities to participate in positive and sustainable change.
Our work is guided by five fundamental values:
